CHAPTER 1
IT HAD BEEN A LONG DAY
IT HAD BEEN A LONG AND somewhat stressful day for all concerned. Dr. Andrew Newton, his wife Belinda, and their two teen-aged sons Grayson and Tanner were taking a moment to warm themselves and settle into their seats of the family car. He expected their drive home would be a little longer than usual and uneventful even though they were starting off under severe blizzard conditions.
Very early on In his career and when he was not much older than his sons are today, Andrew founded, created and was the chief architect of Google Brain, which for decades served as the genesis of today’s modern new AI World Order. As such this had placed, he and Belinda in a leading role in formulating the world’s future AI structure.
In his worldwide leading role and in little more than a decade Andrew became the founder, creator, CEO and Chief AI World Scientist at the AI World Organization, the new global ruling organization that had replaced the now defunct UN Organization the ruled the world of the past.
Currently Andrew was driven by his pioneering work in the fields of human to machine Nano Genetic Learning and man to machine Nano Genetic Processing while also trying to be a guiding parent to two super genius teenaged boys.
With everyone warmed and clamoring to get home Andrew turns control of the vehicle over to it’s auto-drive system which locks down everyone’s passenger protection devices and starts down the road for home.
“So, how did the system upgrade on the car’s AI Driver Control System go when you took it into the shop yesterday” Andrew asked his wife.
“Pretty much a non-event. They reported a few minor changes in the steering and braking systems to conform to the latest safety recall notices and said we wouldn’t notice anything different in it’s overall performance.”
Belinda answered her husband.
“Did they fix the terrible acoustics here in the back compartments so the music is recognizable as more that tortured animals sounds?” His son Grayson asked his mother.
“Sorry Gray. They said that problem is not a priority for safety related recalls.” Belinda told her son.
“Yea Right.” Grayson grumbled.
Suddenly without warning the two front passenger protection cages disengaged leaving Andrew and his wife totally unprotected.
“What the heck?” Andrew said to no one in particular.
Andrew immediately attempted to disengage the auto control system and engage the manual override system to take control of the vehicle. The auto control system refused to disengage and now the vehicle began making sharp swerving maneuvers crisscrossing from one side of the road to the other while accelerating.
“Andrew, What the hell is happening? Slow down.” Belinda screamed in a panic at Andrew.
All efforts to regain control of the car failed. Their speed now registered in the danger zone as Andrew noticed that suddenly somehow large yellow flames were now shooting out of the engine compartment. He could see through the flames that the car was now steering directly for a one-hundred-foot embankment directly ahead of them.
Before Andrew could utter a sound, the car crashed through the road guard and headed over the embankment as both he and Belinda were partially thrown headfirst through the windshield as everything went black.
